Moringa is one of the most nutritious plants on the planet! We want to create a world where everyone has access to nutritious sources of food and malnutrition only exists in history textbooks. We’re excited to build that world with you.
Kuli Kuli Bars bring U.S. consumers the nutritional power of Moringa while supporting women farmers in the developing world to grow more moringa, utilize its nutrients locally, and earn a livelihood. Kuli Kuli Bars carefully manages their supply chain in Niger to source only a portion of each harvest for Western consumption, and by paying fair wages, helping to ensure that moringa continues to benefit those who need it the most.
Moringa has high levels of protein, calcium, iron, Vitamin C and Vitamin A. The Moringa Oleifera leaves have been used in traditional medicine passed down for centuries in many cultures. In Ayurvedic Medicine, Moringa is said to cure or prevent about 300 diseases. The modern scientific community has begun to validate many of these claims with over 1300 studies, articles and publications on Moringa.
Studies document the successful use of moringa for nutritional interventions in Malawi, Senegal, and India, noting its ability to be harvested year-round and for being the most nutritious food locally available. As climate change makes rainfall increasingly unpredictable for low-income farmers in the developing world, moringa will become important for communities around the world taking control of their own nutrition.

The founder, Lisa Curtis, began working on Kuli Kuli while in the Peace Corps in Niger, West Africa. As a volunteer in her village’s health center, she gained a first-hand understanding of the common nutritional challenges faced in West African villages. She experienced early signs of malnutrition herself after a few months of limited fruits and vegetables.  She was introduced to Moringa, a local tree with highly nutritious leaves, and incorporated it into her diet and began to regain her strength.
Lisa saw a solution to the malnutrition and poverty in her village growing in the nutritious leaves of the Moringa oleifera tree. When she returned to the U.S., Lisa worked to create Kuli Kuli Bars, a mission-driven business.
Prior to Kuli Kuli, Lisa served as the Communications Director at Mosaic, wrote political briefings for President Obama in the White House and worked at an impact investment firm in India.
